Women and Friends of the Roundtable,

In her book Caretakers of Our Common House, Carol Lakey Hess says, “Going deep, where we probe beneath the surface, where we question the way things are, and where it sometimes gets uncomfortable is crucial for genuine relationality and mature caring. Communities of faith can be places where deep conversation happens, but too often they are not.” She goes on to discuss the importance of what she calls conversational education which is marked by “hard dialogue and deep connections in a community of diverse participants with a rich tradition.”

Thank you so much for being part of such a lively discussion on Tuesday night and for being part of making our community of faith here at Lee a place where deep conversation is happening.  Our meeting  turned out to be a very healthy exercise in dialogical truth— ;) . Thank you Professor Alderman for joining us and leading the conversation.

Also, this was the first time in the history of the Roundtable that our male colleagues have joined us for one of our Tuesday night meetings and hopefully it won’t be the last!  Men, thank you so much for being so eager to participate! The Roundtable is always looking for better ways to not only create community for women in the SOR but to also better serve the wider community of the SOR. Please let us know any hopes, thoughts, ideas you might have for the Roundtable–event suggestions, things you would love to see happen. We’d love to hear! We have your email addresses now—we’ll stay in touch.

Again, thank you so much for being part of our community.

23Oct08

Women,

As your calendars show, our next meeting is tomorrow evening at 7:30pm. Our evening’s discussion will center around a reading selected from Gifted to Lead: the Art of Leading as a Woman in the Church. The author of this newly released book is Nancy Beach, teaching pastor of Willow Creek. The book is a vital resource for any woman who has sensed God’s call to leadership, whatever shape that may take. Pick up the short reading (just a few pages) from Katie Blaylock’s student office inside Rickie Moore’s new office suite in the SOR building. Even if you cannot find time to read, come anyway and be apart of the discussion! Everyone’s voice matters!

So…join us tomorrow night, 7:30pm in our new meeting place SOR 146! We will have coffee and refreshments. See you tomorrow night!

Hey Women (of the Roundtable),

This Saturday Oct 11th is the day we are heading down to Emory University’s campus to research at Pitts Theology Library. We will probably meet on campus at the admin building and leave around 8am (early for a Saturday, I know!), but it will be worth it! We will arrive at Emory 2 or so hours later and spend a few hours researching in the library before we take a break for lunch. We will walk to Everybody’s Pizza across the street. After an hour….or so….:) for lunch we will head back to keep researching. We will probably leave Emory’s campus around 4:30 or 5:00–the library closes at 5:00pm.

If you are still into coming on Saturday here are some things to bring with you:

-$ for Lunch, perhaps about $10, maybe a little more depending on what you order. Check out their menu on their website: http://www.everybodyspizza.com/

-$ for a Copy Card. Bring about $5 cash or check if you are looking to make copies. They will load this money on a re-loadable card so you can make copies from books on their copy machine. You can’t check books out from Emory so this definitely helps you to bring home any helpful research you found at the library.  http://www.pitts.emory.edu/

-your laptop notebook, syllabus, etc.

-yourself!

I hope that you can all make it out. We have taken this trip many times in the past and it’s always really productive and a lot of fun to spend time with each other.

Ladies,

We hope this posting finds you all well (and not to overwhelmed with tests, papers, etc!!). Mark your planners—there is a Roundtable meeting tomorrow evening! It will be a pretty informal one—coffee, tea and cake over at Janna’s apartment. Mostly it will be a night of hanging out and. getting to know one another more.

We always say that the Roundtable exists to encourage community for women in the SOR—tomorrow night will be all about that. So please join us at 7:30. Email sor.roundtable@gmail.com for directions to Janna’s apartment—it is basically on-campus so you can definitely walk. We hope to see you there…and please, feel free to bring a friend!!!

Our Last Gathering of the Semester:

Tuesday, 04/15/08: This last gathering will be very low-key (we don’t need any more readings on top of term papers and final exams ;) ) We will just hang out, eat, consume a lot of coffee, talk about this semester, talk about each other, and talk about things to come for the RT.  It will all go down at Janna’s Apt. 7:30pm. Feel free to bring party hats.
